Weddings

Congratulations your engaged!

“We need a photographer - now what?”

Choosing your photographer is like going to a fruit market - what’s good, what’s not so good, what will you like, what will it be great!  Be careful when comparing different photography packages with different studios - it's like comparing apples with nectarines - both are round but totally different.

First - you need a starting point

Have a general idea of what you'd like - album, getting ready coverage, parent presents (ie mini albums or enlargements), englargements for your walls, reception coverage, different style of locations, etc.

Next - budget (it's not a bad word)

It’s not unreasonable to pay about 10 - 15% of your wedding budget on your professional photography package. It may be easy to cut corners here but you really do get what you pay for. Professional Photographers prices are covering their experience and expertise both at the wedding, and in the industry, ensuring you get quality, knowing the better products and quality control for your memories, professional service on the day and after, and much more.

Then - choosing someone

Look for someone who matches your personality, style, is flexible with what you want, and you have confidence in them to deliver.

The Photography Wedding Interview

  • Always meet your photographer - it’s best if you both go along to the interview to make sure you all get on well together and you know you’ll have a great day

  • Bring your questions - it is expected!

  • Allow approximately 45 - 60 minutes so can cover all you need to

  • Make sure what you want to remember your day is in your package - if not, adjust the package

  • You may book the first photography studio you see (many people do) or want to meet with a few others before making your decision (also, many people do).

  • Affinity Photography has an agreement and deposit to reserve your day for you.

*Summer Wedding Tips…..

As a professional photographer, I get to see many different weddings and like to pass along bits and tips…..

  • Sunscreen!  So often forgotten, and you don't want to start the honeymoon with painful sunburn.  The bridal party are often out and about during the day so don't forget faces, and exposed skin.

  • Now, this one sounds strange but remember, I've seen this before.... if you're planning a winery location with nice vineyard photographs (with permission needed from the winery first) - they are teeming with little flys which love veils and white.  A low scent repellant will help.  Also, a quick spray to the bridal party before an outdoor ceremony will stop the 'Aussie wave'. (I have seen some nice little baskets with a variety of sprays and roll-ons for guests too which have been very appreciated).

  • Take refreshments for your bridal party along to locations - include water and straws (for the lippy).

  • During Summer, you should still be prepared for the weather and unexpected changes - include options for your day so it doesn't add any stress.

  • Check what else may be happening on the day - don’t get stuck in event traffic on your way to your favorite location or worse, the ceremony.

  • Swap mobile numbers with your photographer and make sure it’s a number of a phone with the bridal party on the day. REMEMBER switch off before the ceremony!

  • Any changes in getting ready locations let your photographer, flowers, hair & makeup, cars, and video people know too (I have heard stories about last minute changes...).

  • Don’t be afraid to communicate with your photographer. VIPs who have traveled from overseas just for your day would love to have a special photograph with you both. Recently a bride told me (wisely before the day) that she intended to have the group photograph in the album, as a double page magazine print. To photograph this, the couple needed to be off centre so the middle of the pages didn’t come between them. The result was wonderful.

  • Consider the engagement portrait. You practice your hair, makeup, ceremony - why not your photography!

* the above should be taken as general hints only and not instructions, guarantees, or professional advice.

^ Prices may change from time to time.  The most current package brochure at the time of booking your wedding will be applied.  Check with the studio at time of booking your wedding.
